A Time-Tested Approach to SERVO Assemblies

A Time-tested Approach to Servo Assemblies
banner

Not all cables are created equal. When choosing a servo system for your assembly, the performance and suitability of cable properties should be one of your core priorities. However, some may not realise that overdesign is as much a problem as incompatibility; an unnecessarily complex cable design adds on to product costs without enhancing the performance of the solution.

Since introducing the first industrially produced flexible, colour-coded servo cable in 1957, LAPP has evolved along with the market to become a complete cable solutions provider on its strong cable manufacturing foundation. As customers are no longer satisfied with individual products, solution-based thinking has become our de facto way of working. This is manifested in servo assemblies, where we are ready to supply you with the right servo product – from cables to connectors and other components – dispatched right to your site of installation.

Servo Assembly Selection:
The Right Connector in the Right Place

Different market applications demand different cable assemblies. From static to dynamic applications, the right servo assembly should fulfil cable properties needed for the job, such as abrasion resistance and electromagnetic protection.

LAPP’s semi-automated production line for its servo assemblies delivers cost-efficient and paperless production for customers worldwide. Choose from 3 distinct powerline classes of cables – basic line, core line and extended line under our ÖLFLEX® CONNECT smart servo solutions to suit a variety of industrial standards. Read more in our whitepaper which provides a quick guide on optimising your servo assemblies.

Digitalising Inventory Management
with Smart Cable Drum

“We want to assist our customers in making Industry 4.0 a reality in their company. The smart cable drum helps digitalize inventory management by using an accurate method to adjust warehouse stock to actual needs. This saves costs and warehouse capacities.”

– Mr. Ralf Moebus, Product Manager Industrial Data
Communication at LAPP

LAPP’s innovative smart cable drum made its debut at Hannover Messe 2019. A timely collaboration between Schildknecht and LAPP, this intelligent drum can be deployed in warehouses, allowing stock to be precisely aligned to actual demand - thus yielding savings on costs and storage capacity. Integrating the use of sensors with Bluetooth 5 or mobile radio technology and an eSIM card, vital information can be delivered via cloud to internal networks to facilitate quick access.

Besides significantly simplifying warehousing duties, the drum further doubles up as a useful tool in theft protection with optional built-in GPS detection. Other concrete fields of applications are currently being explored.

BENT BUT NOT BROKEN

RIGOROUS TESTING ENSURES HIGH QUALITY

To ensure the optimum quality of our cables, LAPP tests the performance of all its products in-house. From millions of bending cycles at various speeds under extreme bending radii to mechanical, chemical and vibration testing, our cables have to withstand tough endurance tests before they even

make it to series production. Customers with specific quality and safety requirements can also contact us to conduct testing on their orders, and be issued with the test certificate.

Some examples of what could happen when inferior cables are exposed to oil and coolants:
Competitor Cables vs. LAPP cables
Tip: Review the properties of cables for your application to avoid irreversible damage and unwanted cable replacement expenses!

ÖLFLEX® has become synonymous with power and control cables. Our flexible and oil-resistant cables satisfy the highest demands and can withstand even the very toughest conditions. These cables have been used to illuminate diving lamps at a depth of 264 metres in Lake Garda, Italy and even to ventilate the world-famous Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.

The rugged design of our performance-tested ÖLFLEX® cables offers a clear application advantage, and tests have been performed using state-of-the-art equipment to ensure compliance with UL standards.
